Institute for
Social Work Research, Education, & Consultation
Within the School of Social
Work, I serve as Director, The Institute for Social Work Research, Education,
& Consultation, an entrepreneurial effort developed as an entity through
which to offer services provided contractually by faculty, staff, and students
of the School of Social Work to local agencies or other organizations. It is
also intended as a venue by which funds from small grants initiated by the
Institute could be housed for disbursement and oversight.
The institute generates a small income
flow for support of its ongoing activities by provision of support and
co-sponsorship for agency-based conferences, workshops, and social work
continuing education programs, by being the provider of social work continuing
education certification (as an approved provider under state law). Such
collaborative efforts, in the form of co-sponsorship, also serve to enhance the
public image and recruitment efforts of the School of Social Work.
The Institute sponsors periodic series of
continuing education programs for social workers and certified addictions
counselors needing ongoing, approved continuing education credits. Programs,
including two grant funded by the Marywood University Cultural Affairs
Committee, have been developed focusing primarily on Behavioral Health and
Gerontology. The Gerontology efforts resulted through a grant funded effort,
The Social Work Gerontological Competency Program. Flyers advertising some of
these continuing education efforts are provided here.
