Whirling Dervishes of Rumi

You are invited to attend Whirling Dervishes who are coming from Turkey to perform at Marywood University on October 17th, 2007 at 7PM by our Turkish students Harun and Erkan. Don't miss this opportunity to see life performance of Whirling Dervishes of Rumi!

The Whirling Dervishes of Rumi is a traveling traditional dance group that performs Turkish dances. They use very old Turkish instruments and dress in traditional white cloaks. The dervishes will perform the Mevlevi Order Sufi ritual, a traditional dance dating back to the day of Rumi.

"...Jelaluddin Mevlana Rumi was a famous 13th century poet and philosopher who stressed universal love. Everything in the dance is symbolic and based on Rumi’s philosophies, all the way down to the white cloaks, which represent purity. Dancers whirl because everything from planets to atoms revolves..."
