Academic Courses Taught

MED 516, E-Learning Systems

E-Learning Systems uniquely allows the learner to participate in E-learning as a student and as an instructor.  They contribute to discussions about E-learning, its advantages and disadvantages, and how E-learning is being utilized in different sectors.  Electronic tools used in E-learning environments are investigated as well as how to choose the best ones.  The “learning” part of E-learning is also considered as students read about learning styles and theories, and how people learn best.  As a final project, the student will follow an instructional design (ID) model and create a learning environment using an electronic, computerized, or other digital tool.  Syllabus

D/ED 1007, Instructional Design: Theory and Applications

This course introduces the learner to the systems approach of designing instruction.  Each of the nine major elements of the Morrison, Ross and Kemp instructional design (ID) model will be presented.  Group activities will aid in mastering these systematic elements, culminating in the creation of an ID Plan for the design of a unit of instruction.  The topic will be chosen by the learner.  Syllabus

ND 536, Communication Techniques in Nutrition and Exercise

This course enables students to further develop their communication skills (oral, written, electronic) in order to provide effective education to clients. This goal is achieved through various projects where students design instruction on a particular nutritional topic meant for a specific audience. This includes development of a scenario, identification of a target audience, and the writing of objectives. Various computer technologies are used as tools to support these projects.  Syllabus
